We have a passion for good food

Sydney, Mark and their son Jacob (17) have lived in Taranaki for the last 12 years. In 2011 they made the big move from Australia to New Zealand, something Sydney always wanted to do.

Sydney has a drive and a passion for fresh organic food and a love for nature and the environment. Her career began when she 18 and got a job as a barista in a local café in Melbourne, a spark was ignited and she knew she had a love for good food and serving customers to the best of her ability, there was nothing better than seeing the customers receive their food and enjoy it with a smile on their face. She knew she wanted to own her own café one day, where she could provide high quality organic food all the customers would love. In 2003 at the age of 23, Sydney met Mark, they hit it off straight away as they bonded over their shared love of food. Sydney had also previously travelled to New Zealand with her family when she was a teenager and never forgot the friendly locals and beautiful scenery Taranaki had to offer. This grew her passion for the environment, she strives to protect our beautiful planet and is always conscious of the environmental impact her actions have.

Mark knew as soon as he got to high school that he had a passion for food. His career began after school when he began an apprenticeship in a local restaurant and his skills have only grown from there, eventually becoming head chef at high class restaurant in central Melbourne. After meeting Sydney and having their son Jacob, Mark agreed that a move to New Zealand would be a great move for them, with Taranaki being their destination of choice, the perfect place to bring up their young son.

In 2020 Sydney and Mark decided they were going to bring their dreams to reality and began work on finding a location, building a menu and sourcing suppliers for Sydney’s dream, of owning her own café.

Organic Hub was established in 2021 and has been delighting local customers ever since. Nestled in the perfect location in central New Plymouth, the café’s focus is on high quality organic food. Sydney has a focus on keeping the café eco-friendly and they have kept their ecological footprint low and only use recyclable coffee cups, takeaway containers and takeaway cutlery. To support this even further, Sydney bought in “keep cups” that are purchasable by customers! Even better, if customers bring their keep cup in for use instead of a takeaway coffee cup, they get 50 cents off their drink!
